The Maginhawa Street Series

For the past few months, I’ve been seeing variations of foodie guides to Maginhawa St. such as this one:

After having gone through various maps such as this one, all I can say is that these maps do not give justice to the food haven that is Maginhawa St. There are lots of hole in the wall restaurants yet to be included on these maps.

Luckily, I just live a couple of blocks away so I’m always updated on what’s new. Perhaps this will be my new project: The Maginhawa Street Series. From time to time, I will try to write about the restaurants in the area. Wish me luck!

Bucas Grande Island

In the far sleepy town of Soccoro in the province of Surigao del Norte I have found one of our country’s hidden natural gems.

Sohoton in Bucas Grande Island is a reality for those who longed and dreamt of complete peace and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of the Metro. If there’s one word to describe Bucas Grande: Breathtaking.

Apart from the crystal clear lakes and lagoons, I was also awestruck by the wonder inside the Crystal cave. Inside you’ll find rock formations sparkling with crystals, stalagmites and stalactites.  Please note that tourists are not allowed to touch the crystals as they automatically lose their sparkle once they do.

Another highlight of my visit was the Jellyfish Lagoon. Before I used to think that stingless jellyfish only existed in Palau. Little did I know that we also have the same attraction here in Bucas Grande.

Since the there are a million jellyfish in the lagoon and that their bodies are so delicate, motorized boats are not allowed. Good thing they have this small boats good for two persons where you can transfer and paddle away.

Since I don’t know how to swim, I just marvelled on the beauty of the surroundings on the boat. Good thing the waters are so clear that I was able to appreciate and enjoy the view. Plus I was able to catch and hold a jellyfish. It felt weird and yeah, they really are stingless. However, I was told not to hold it above water from more than 7 seconds otherwise they lose their tentacles and die.

Apart from what was seen on these photos, Bucas Grande have a lot more to offer. You can even go snorkelling and island hopping to and enjoy the pristine white sand beaches. Best part of it is total privacy.

At the end of the day, you can recharge at the magnificent water villas of Club Tara Resort.

Soulmade

“MORE THAN JUST HAND MADE.”

If you’re looking for quirky, cheap trinkets, Soulmade will be definitely perfect for you.

One Sunday, I happened to be at UP Town Center to meet my cousins and the kiddos for late lunch. While waiting for our orders, I went out to check on the small bazar outside. Since service at the restaurant was fast and they immediately called me back, I didn’t have much time to go around. Lucky thing I was still able to score these amazing finds:

The best part of it was that I got them all for under Php700.00. What a great deal! I was happy that I didn’t forget to ask for their business card. As expected, they are selling these lovelies on Facebook and Instagram. In fact, I already placed my order on other goodies that are to die for.

To add a bit of kick to your OOTD, you can order yours now at:

Pink’s Manila

If you’re a fan of America’s Next Top Model, you’d probably remember one photoshoot during the All Stars Cycle where the models posed for Pink’s Hotdogs, one of Los Angeles’ best hotdog joint. Now the franchise has made its way in the Philippines and opened its first store in Bonifacio Global City.

Just this afternoon, me and my friend Karen had the chance to try the famous Pink’s hotdog. Since we were both rushing to get back at our individual offices, we just asked for their best sellers. Upon the recommendation of the cashier, we ordered The Hollywood Legend and Philly Cheesesteak Dog.

Upon serving, we both looked at each other and told ourselves that we may not be able to eat the entire thing because of the generous serving size. Little did we know that our plates would be emptied just a few minutes after because the hotdogs were so good. I think this is the first time I’ve really enjoyed a child dog.

It may seem a bit pricey for a hotdog to be worth around 250 to 350 pesos, but hell it was worth it. I can’t wait to be back again. Next time I’ll make sure to compliment my chili dog with a bottle of ice cold draft beer.

Pink’s Manila: It is not any ordinary hotdog.
